What is your connection to Moreland? And, to which suburb(s)?
I moved to Brunswick in June 2020
What was your experience of life before the pandemic?
I was living and working overseas as a humanitarian until March 2020. Life was quite busy and often extremely intense. This is because my main focus was trying to ensure that the basic human needs of vulnerable people were being met in volatile environments.
Describe an experience that occurred during this pandemic that has stood out to be significant to you or your organisation/space/business that you'd like to share?
My partner and I moved to Brunswick between the two lockdowns. Both of us had been living very transient lives for a while and we were looking forward to reconnecting with Melbourne after being away. We didn't get a chance to do this because of the Stage 4 Restrictions but we did get to know Brunswick really well through our daily walks.
It was wonderful to see people coming together in the community, especially through online platforms. There was kindness, support and the breaking down of unnecessary barriers as individuals made the effort to meaningfully engage with each other. I loved coming across stories of people using this time to reassess their possessions, relationships, careers, health, attitudes... their entire lives really. Despite the struggles, I could sense a strong movement towards positivity. My hope for the future is that we all hold on to the good things that came out of the pandemic.
