Los Hermanos Mexican Taquería: 23/03/2020 to 24/05/2020
Los Hermanos Mexican Taquería has been an institution of Brunswick for nearly 10 years now. What has made Los Hermanos such a popular destination, is Bruno’s (the owner of Los Hermanos) focus on treating the space as a home for customers as well as a home for the employees, and of course their delicious tacos and cocktails! Through this warm culture, Los Hermanos can feel like you’re a part of a big family. Well a family that likes to party and eat a lot of delicious tacos!
What would have been a bustling night with long lines spiralling out the front door, is now an empty space with full tequila bottles, unlit candles and chairs stacked on top of tabletops. After the enforced shutdown of non essential services, Bruno was struck with trying to find a way to support his 22 employees. Bruno explains, “Close communication has been maintained during this crisis period, how ever most of my staff are on holiday working visas or student visas and do not qualify for job keeper or job seeker which leaves them without a support structure during this period”. Bruno moved some staff members to he’s “dark kitchen” located at Little Hop to help distribute the reduced hours as best as he could. Though some of he’s employees had no choice but to either return back home or find alternative ways of making money.
